New ramps will provide direct movements from eastbound I-465 and northbound I-465 to northbound I-69. Binford Blvd. will also be reconstructed to separate local traffic from traffic entering and exiting I-69 and I-465. Access to I-69 from Binford Blvd. will remain open.

Long-Term Closures

  • Ramp from 56th Street to I-465
  • Ramp from Allisonville Road to I-465 eastbound

PROJECTS ON 116TH STREET

Citizens Water will be relocating a water main in 116th Street and along Lantern Road starting at 6 am on Saturday, January 11 through 5 am Monday, January 13. PROJECTS NORTH OF 116TH STREET

146TH STREET & ALLISONVILLE ROAD – HAMILTON COUNTY PROJECT

*TRAFFIC PATTERN UPDATE *

Please be advised, beginning on or after Thursday, January 9th, the contractor will implement a traffic phase shift for eastbound 146th Street. Traffic will be shifted to the south and will now utilize the bridge carrying eastbound 146th Street over the White River. The contractor will utilize construction barrels to delineate the driving area from the construction zone. See graphic below for the new lane configuration.

Please use extreme caution when driving in this area and watch for flaggers during the phase shift.

Please use extreme caution and follow the 35mph posted speed limit when traveling through the work zone. Left turns are prohibited in all directions at the intersection. Please see the included intersection diagram here, for the movements that are allowed. Periodic lane closures and intermittent stoppages may be necessary to complete certain work items. Please watch for flaggers and workers in and around the construction zone.

For additional project information, visit the 146th Street & Allisonville Rd. Project Page.

PROJECTS SOUTH OF 116TH STREET

96TH STREET AND ALLISONVILLE ROAD INTERSECTION (NOW OPEN)

The 96th & Allisonville roundabout is now open and accessible in all directions, making travel smoother and safer at one of the main gateways to our City. Please proceed with caution as this still an active construction site.*Watch out for lane restrictions in the coming week – the contractor will be working on signal and pavement work.*

HERITAGE PARK BRIDGE – TRAIL CLOSURE

The City of Fishers has partnered with the City of Carmel, Clay Township, Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation, Hamilton County, and Delaware Township to connect Heritage Park at White River and Carmel’s Hazel Landing Park with a bridge over White River. This new amenity will provide enhanced connectivity between the two communities, as well as new recreational opportunities for our residents. To construct this bridge, the contractor will need to restrict access to a portion of Heritage Park’s loop trail that runs adjacent to the river through the woods beginning the week of March 4, click here for an ariel view. During this time, you’ll notice temporary construction fencing going up as we prepare for construction. Beginning the week of March 11, the contractor will work to clear the necessary trees between the park and river. Bridge construction will follow beginning in May. Construction is expected to occur Monday through Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. The bridge is expected to be complete in August 2025.

A REMINDER ABOUT ZIPPER MERGING
We have received inquiries about the zipper merge at Fall Creek Rd between Brooks School and Carroll Rd – in this area we ask drivers to be mindful of the zipper merge and to share the road. See below an explanation of what a zipper merge is and how it works:

What is a Zipper Merge?

Zipper merges are designed to keep traffic moving by allowing drivers to use both lanes until reaching the merge point.

How Does a Zipper Merge Work?

Zipper merges work exactly as they sound – like a zipper!

As drivers see “lane closed ahead” signs, they should stay in their current lane up to the designated merge point. Then drivers should take turns moving into the open lane. This practice is much safer than merging early, which causes congestion and more significant changes in speed.
When a zipper merge is in place, be respectful of other drivers who wait to merge until just before the lane ends – they’re doing it right!

Zipper Merge vs. Early Merge

Most drivers tend to merge at the first sight of a “lane closed ahead” sign, however many slow too quickly, which can lead to unexpected lane switches, serious crashes and road rage.

Zipper merges provide several benefits to the traveling public. Risks decrease when motorists use both lanes until reaching the defined merge area and then alternate or take turns moving to the open lane in a zipper-like fashion.
Benefits
  • Reduces speed differences between two lanes
  • Reduces queue length by up to 40%
  • Reduces congestion and keeps traffic moving smoothly
  • Creates a sense of fairness and equity that all lanes are moving at the same rate
  • Brings order to the merging process

When Should Motorists Not Use Zipper Merges?

Not all work zones are conducive to use of a zipper merge. Signage will be present if a zipper merge is present. In situations where traffic is flowing at highway speeds with no or minimal back-ups, drivers should merge early to the open lane when it is safe to do so.
