Fishers’ first Pride Fest

Music was a big part of the vibe, provided by the DJ on the stage

There has never been a Pride event in the city of Fishers, but that ended Saturday when Fishers Pride Inc. sponsored the first such event. Fishers Pride Inc. supports the local LGBTQIA+ community and families.

The weather on the grounds of the Holy Family Episcopal Church was perfect, some sun, some clouds and temperatures in the 60s.  There was a festive atmosphere among the people and the music.

There were commercial vendors, nonprofit organization tents and presence from some political organizations and candidates.  Walking around the festivities gave one the feeling of a good time for all.

Below are a few photos I shot perusing the grounds and activities.

Lots of people playing games on the grounds

    1. They were so much fun! We had several talented, super fun entertainers yesterday! Everyone was happy, felt safe, and enjoyed feeling included in our community. It was a perfect day. Thanks for inquiring!

    2. Hi Rachel. I was there yesterday and everyone enjoyed the variety of live performances.

Interestingly enough, live performances run a wide range, and they are routinely fun in nature. I had friends and family who used to dress up and perform at renfests, where people would sword fight and stage entire deaths. Current pop stars perform in leotards and two piece outfits. The Olympics just occurred, and those live events had all kinds of outfits, such as in beach volleyball.

I’m guessing you’re trying to be a little derogatory, but that is misplaced. Yesterday was a great event for all ages. If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s just fine. But there was nothing problematic whatsoever.

    3. Also, Larry wasn’t at the event when our Drag performers were on stage. So, he would not have had the information to share.

  1. Rachel should come to a drag show sometime. They really are a blast! Kids don’t know the difference between the big haired overly made up Fishers women and the fun people in drag performing in glitter and colorful costumes, that is unless judgmental people make a big deal out of it.
It’s performance art and lively music – and just plain fun. Why should one gender be able to claim glitter and sparkles all for themselves? Rachel, Aditya and anyone else, if you don’t approve then don’t come. Easy peasy lemon squeezey. Not one single person at the very first Fishers Pride event can claim anything negative about that day. It was beautiful. And just plain fun!

  2. The music and entertainment were great! Such a variety too with a DJ, live performances and the kids from School of Rock. Letting them close out the day’s festivities was so cool for them. I was just blown away by how many people were there! It was awesome to see the community come together to share love, laughter and friendship while enjoying the lovely grounds of the church, local vendors and delicious eats. I can’t wait for next year!

  3. It was such a lovely, peaceful event! My 68 year old mom had a blast!! I guess Rachel won’t let her kids watch Hairspray? I mean, John Travolta plays a woman.
