Podcast: Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness talks library issues and much more in this podcast

Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness may have no appointments to the Hamilton East Library Board, but he is weighing-in on the library board policy of reviewing books in the teen section for possible placement in the adult collection based on content.  The mayor is asking for cooler heads to prevail and wants the library board to bring in everyone in the community to find a solution to the current dispute between the board and segments of the public.

The mayor talks about that, the 2024 budget and more in this podcast:

  1. The Mayor should propose revoking the new library policy and returning to our standard practice of not banning or relocating books in our public library. Although he did not like the controversy, he did not take a stance either. It is unreasonable to expect our librarians and volunteers to sift through numerous books for a non-standard library policy. Librarians undergo training to become proficient in classifying and cataloging materials accurately. They also stay up-to-date on the latest information about new books and evolving subjects to maintain the library’s organization. We can all agree that not all books suit everyone in a public library. Therefore, patrons should be free to select the books they wish to read without interference. Let our librarians get back to running an efficient and welcoming library. Yes, I know he does not have the authority over how our library board is selected, but he has many people listening.

Interesting that there is no number as to how many paid the $50 exclusion tax at Geist (likely none). I do hope that the policy is revisited and revoked. It does not affect me, but it is a bad policy. Why do we even need technology to access a park in Fishers?

141st Street – perhaps it will eventually be built. But this intersection is now dangerous and most try to avoid it. Somehow we find funds to start many other projects quickly (two mentioned in this podcast)
