Fishers Arts & Culture Commission hands out $43,000 in local grants

The Fishers Arts & Culture Commission is sending out checks to local groups totaling $43,000.  The commission, provided the funds as part of the 2021 city budget, selected the recipients by requiring they apply to at least two of the following criteria: inclusive, authentic, engaging, collaborative, innovative, and educational.

Here is the list of those selected to receive the grants:

  • Fishers Arts Council ($2,500) to support live musicians at public receptions and events hosted by Fishers Arts Council.
  • Safina Family Services ($2,400) to support an educational cross-cultural event curated by connecting the Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu communities.
  • 31Svn Street Dance Academy ($2,500) to support a Breakdance and Breaking event with the intent to bridge the gap between different cultures.
  • Prism Project of Fishers ($2,500) to support a public artistic performance created and performed by children with disabilities.
  • St George Orthodox Church ($2,500) to support an authentic Middle Eastern singer and band to perform at the St. George Festival.
  • Mixed Rep Showcase ($2,500) to support the opportunity for students to rehearse and learn from professional dance companies that will culminate in a showcase.  
  • Clockwork Music ($2,500) to provide support for “pop-up” music and culinary experiences in the fall at the Nickel Plate District.
  • Winter Club ($2,500) to support the programming of a Winter Wonderland holiday skating recital and open skate day at the Fuel Tank.
  • JPPARSSI, Inc. ($2,500) to support an interactive piece inspired by the Japanese tradition “Ema” at Ignite Studio at Hamilton East Public Library that expresses gratitude.
  • Sewful Cheryl ($2,500) to support six kid and teen fashion design classes.
  • PFLAG Fishers ($2,500) to support a mobile mural created by local LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to generate awareness.
  • Page & Stage Theatre-for-Literacy ($2,500) to support up to four performances of Charlotte’s Web that teaches acceptance and kindness to children.
  • Brosmer PhotoGraphic ($2,250) to support a video production of more than 30 public art pieces in Fishers and highlights the educational benefits of public art.
  • High Frequency Arts ($2,025) to support open house events at Hub & Spoke to showcase over 60 local artists.
  • Bruce Loewenthal ($2,250) to support a public artwork using street signs intended to awaken, enlighten, and provoke pedestrians in the Nickel Plate District.
  • Ji-Enu Lee Music Academy ($2,250) to support the startup costs to establish a Fishers children’s choir including a winter performance.
  • Sunday Crafternoon with Gwen ($2,250) to support the cost of supplies for the monthly craft events that raise awareness of local nonprofits.
  • Famous Hoosiers ($2,000) to support two live Abraham Lincoln reenactments at the Nickel Plate District.
